In most cases, phenolic resins or urea resins are used as bonding agents. Specific properties such as flexibility or water-resistance are achieved by adding fillers. It is the abrasive grain which performs the actual job. It penetrates the workpiece and lifts the chip. High hardness, toughness and sharp edges are the most important characteristics of an abrasive grain.
